Lil' Wayne dissing 50 Cent? You decide...

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/audio/id.6184#comments

Seems that some people have discovered this song (click above), whereby Lil' Wayne apparently takes shots at 50 Cent. I can only imagine that this arises from the line 'I'll pour syrup in your Vitamin Water'.

(n.b. Vitamin Water is a drink 50 Cent released and made a lot of money off)

If it is a diss track, as much as I think Lil' Wayne is a good entertainer, 50 Cent would kill him. The most memorable diss tracks of recent times are 50 Cent's. Think about it: Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Murder Inc. and Jadakiss were all in the prime of their careers. They went back and forth with 50, and where are they now?

I don't actually like 50 Cent much, but this is his style, this is what he does. Wayne is not making a good move going after him.

Assuming this is actually a diss track of course.

I kind of disagree, yes this is what 50 does and how he got his foot in the rap game. However, he hasn't been relevant since the massacre and the diss track piggbank. He bottled beef with The Game, and i really don't think he would go after Lil Wayne right now considering his fanbase, at least not with the same intensity he went after ja rule and fat joe...

Fair points, fair points.

I just think 50 would do it better than Wayne. Wayne rarely raps on-topic, and he just throws lines and punchlines, he doesn't keep a theme to many of his songs, example-what is A Milli about?

50 can keep focus and stay on-topic. He's been doing the diss thing for a long time. Wayne is too busy being a rockstar.

You're right about the relevance thing and fanbase, but to me that isn't how you win a diss battle-it's purely the tracks.

Like everyone seems to think Jay beat Nas, just because he's bigger now. Yet Nas had Ether, one of the best (if not THE best) diss track of all-time.

And we're underestimating the 50 fanbase-There's so much made of the fact Wayne has turned pop/rock and Carter 3 sounded nothing like his mixtapes. Tracks like Gossip and I'm Me are the tracks Wayne got his respect on. 50 hasn't really veered into that territory, he has more or less stuck to what he's good at.

50cent is more of what i call a ' pop rapper' in the same ways like bow wow etc...he apeals to loads of women.
however hearing reviews of him next album looks like that his guna be going to his old stuff like his first album.

the game killed 50 and the whole of G-unit in so making them 2 break up (young buck leaving)now thats hat u call killing an artist!

i love wayne and i personally dont think he hasa problem with wayne... and iff soo i dnt think 50 will get involved!

I don't agree with 50 being more of a pop rapper at all. Bow Wow-Marco Polo, Outta My System etc. 50 is nowhere near that territory. The only womanly song I can think of is 21 Questions, but compare that against Lollipop-at least 50 has a topic and raps it the way through.

Yeah, some of Curtis was radio-friendly, but all of Carter 3 was. Listen to Carter 2, that's rap. 70% of C3 is pop rap. 50 is known for being a gangsta rapper, that's what he does, and he's about one of the only people doing it.

Young Buck left because of drug addiction didn't he? That's what I heard. (Buck is the worst rapper of all-time btw)

I don't even believe the Game 'beat' 50, he just didn't get beat by him, it seemed more of a dead heat.

And even if Game did 'win', 50 still has an amazing record for diss rapping. Let's not forget Cam'ron aswell, 50 basically single-handedly broke up Dipset, seeing as Jim Jones started showing up and performing with 50 Cent, him and Cam'ron (previously best friends for a decade) don't speak anymore and Juelz has switched record labels.

oh i agree, lil wayne is not a battle rapper and if he got into a beef with 50 he will most likely get destroyed in terms of song quality. however in my opinion that isn't what wins beef (rightly or wrongly) for example - the game and joe budden: budden's disses were infinitely better than the game's however the game was considered to have won that battle. it's basically whoever comes out of the battle with the most fans (or internet warriors lol) wins. like with 50 and cam'ron, and 50 and fat joe, for me that fat joe diss track to 50 'my fofo' was a hell of alot better than any track 50 released in diss to him! but yeah if 50 was to challenge wayne with the same energy and ferocity as he did with ja rule, wayne won't be able to compete. i just think that 50 has lost his way and hasn't got it in him anymore...

y u gotta be annoymous??!

ok just thought of somehing, what about al this 'marketing beef' with both of there ablums! and 50 said i quote! '' if kanyes sells more albums then me... il retire''

50 wats going on??
but on another note this shows how good kanye west is!

Just listened to it again and came across another line:

'I'm about the dollar, fuck two quarters.'

Hm.

Yeah nikul that's a good point...50 tends to only get involved in beef to promote his albums i.e. in recent interviews he's been taking jabs at lil wayne and T.I. as well as criticising kanye's latest album at every opportunity.

Anonymous said...

yeah that lyric is definantly aimed at 50!

yeah promotionarketing 50cent is a master at these things... like with his new album u get his new movie!! i mean u wont see kanye doing something like this... his all about making good music.. something that 50 needs on his new album

Yeah that line is definitely aimed at 50, it's a play on Jay-Z's infamous diss line to 50 Cent: 'I'm about a dollar, what the fuck is 50 Cents' from the track It's Hot which is on his Vol.3...Life And Times Of S. Carter album. Say what ya say about 50, that man is intelligant as fuck. I imagine he's great at playing chess :o

Yeah, 50's head is screwed on, I'm with you on that. He doesn't mind being hated by a few people to promote himself, it's both brave and effective.

Like Nikul said, there's his movie coming out, and he's also got that TV show, 'Money and the Power' and a new PS3 game which has actually got really good reviews. It's really, really good promotion.

As you said, Kanye doesn't need to do it, but I think he will eventually. There are two ways to look at it-either it's just all-out smothering the entertainment business with your name, or it's just creativity. For 50, it's probably a bit of both.

Kanye does it to a more subtle degree with his tours and award show appearances. 50 Cent doesn't really do either anymore.

I do however like the new 50 song. On first listen, I didn't really like it but it is actually a half-decent tune. I reckon he'll come through on the next album, just because he has to.

Agree with most that everyone has said. Apart from what Ajay said about Buck. Probably the most lyrical rapper from the South in my opinion.

Thou Shall
Laugh Now, Cry Later

Just a few of my favs.

Buck is on some deep shit.

(Sorry to go off topic & I need to set an account up)

Murray x

Fair play Murray, it was a harsh endictment of Young Buck seeing as I don't own much/any of his stuff.

(Although his freestyle over Hip Hop Saved My Life is pretty good)

Yeah I have to agree, buck is a deep guy, he's got a fair few tracks that i really love, and recommend:

Slow ya roll ft. Chester Bennington from Linkin Park

Puff puff pass ft. Ky-mani Marley

Stomp ft. Ludacris and either The Game or T.I. (depending on which version you get)

The NY (another clssic sampling of the track by Phil Collins - In the night)

My Interview (1st song he released after being kicked out of G-Unit)

Laugh now, cry later

Ajay182 said...

I do own Slow Ya Roll actually, and I do like it.

Definitely get hold of Puff Puff Pass (which is on the same album as Slow Ya Roll) and get The NY, I guarantee you'll really like them both.

Ajay182 said...

Cool, will do.

If, as expected, Buck ends up being a decent rapper, I'd like to lay claim here that Tony Yayo and Bow Wow are up there as the worst.
