A Kid Named Cudi

A massive recommendation from me to you-download Kid Cudi's (only) mixtape-A Kid Named Cudi. It was released back in the summer, but I only really got around to listening to it quite recently.

There's something very different about him that I can't quite put my finger on, and naturally that makes me gravitate towards him. He seems to cross Kanye's style with Lupe's lyricism.

By that, I mean he verges on singing at times, has a certain charisma about him and seems to be able to adapt his style to a lot of different beats, but his lyrics are far from predictable-a lot of them are about being 'on the moon'.
Hence his album is going to be called Man on the Moon.

And of course, he nails the chorus on Welcome to Heartbreak.

Oh, and the fact that when we met him at the NEC, he was a really nice guy and took pictures with us. Whilst smelling of weed. (see below for relevance of this comment).

The mixtape is available free on the official site: http://www.kidcudi.com/.

Tracks to look out for:

Maui Wowie (about getting some super-strength weed...!!)

Embrace the Martian (he actually features on this track, it's by Crookers)

Down and Out (really good beat, and a nice mix of rapping and singing)

I downloaded this mixtape a few weeks ago after copping kanye's album. I had never heard of Kid Cudi until Welcome to Heartbreak. Must say I was pleasantly surprised by this mixtape, the tracks you have mentioned that are on the mixtape i really like! As well as those tracks, what to look out for are of course Day N Nite and also what I would consider my favourite track on this album - The Prayer. Very much looking forward to him releasing a proper album, I'm getting the same vibes from this mixtape as the one Kanye released before he made The College Dropout. I forget what that mixtape is called now and no longer have it, but I remember it having the original version of the track Through The Wire. Anyway hopefully Kid Cudi will have a similar impact on the game as Kanye has, he certainly has the potential.

What you talking about? You're jumping on this too Nikul, it's a three-way (giggity) world domination.

You know how I bum off Wale...he's better than Cudi.

Ace Hood-I thought he would blow up, but his album came out last month and pretty much went unnoticed, I don't think he'll do it.

Cudi, Wale, Charles Hamilton and Asher Roth. Those are my 4 picks.

True.

But you totally got me wrong: I like Ace Hood's album, i think it's quality! he just hasn't made an impact. Fair point about Rihanna, but it doesn't work like that with rappers often, rappers are normally judged on their first album: Jay-Z, Nas, 50, Em, Kanye etc.
